Academy for Civic Leadership and Entrepreneurial Leadership (ACEL) in downtown Fresno is certainly different from traditional schools offering a very unique way to learn. The school uses iPads instead of textbooks offers small class size with less than 25 students, and learning is based on technology. The school also offers a variety of music programs as well as a community involved art program. The curriculum is project based which allows students to learn on their own and in a way that fits their own personality and learning style. The school also provides a college plan with each student individually.

There are no other extracurricular activities mentioned besides the art and music programs. Several parents love the school but would love to see more physical activities even if only physical education classes. Students really enjoy attending school and using the great educational tools provided that is helping them prepare for their future or to join the workforce. Students enjoy the project based learning environment where they are presented with an issue or problem in the community. The strenuous projects work with students so they learn business, health, environment, music, arts, civic responsibility, and cultural heritage. Student must research as well as communicate with experts to find the cause of the related project and find plausible solutions.

In the state of California, the California Standards Tests are used to measure students in English language arts for students in 2nd through 11th grades; science for grades 5th, 8th, and 10th; math in grades 2nd through 7th; and history/social science in grades 8th and 11th. Students in middle school also take tests in science and math.

Students at Academy for Civic Leadership and Entrepreneurial Leadership in Fresno scored below state averages across the board in all subjects and all grades. It would be in your best interest to talk with other parents and the administration to learn more about the test results and curriculum prior to enrolling your child.
