Academy of Alameda is a charter school specifically designed for students in 6th through 8th grades. The school offers a unique learning environment from the very beginning helping students with the transition into middle school via the development of behavioral, social, and academic skills. Sixth graders core subjects include English Language, Science, Math, Arts, and Social Students with a team of 2 teachers. Seventh and graders core subjects include Science, Math, Social Studies, and Language Arts.

Along with core subjects the students at Academy of Alameda can join extra curricular activities, sports, and student clubs which include drama, painting, dance, chorus, film production, orchestra, band, basketball, volleyball, cross country, track, physical education classes, newspaper, yearbook, student council, and science & technology.

Students beginning 6th grade feel at home since the school allows the 8th graders to help mentor the lower classmen and help them learn more about the school, their classes, and other facts. The school does not tolerate bullying of any kind and with students wearing uniforms, it truly seems to help.

Parents are very pleased with the school, staff, and teachers. No parent or student had any negative comments at all about the school. Students enjoy going to school and feel like they have devoted teachers and are making new friends. Parents have seen quite a few changes in their children both academically and socially.

As for the results of the California Standards Tests, sixth graders met state averages in core subjects; seventh graders met the state averages or were above average in all tests except for math, which was only 9% below state average; and eighth graders were below in most courses except for history and geometry in which they scored above average.

As with any decision you make regarding your child’s education, it is best to take a tour of the school and talk with other parents that have children attending the school.
