Viewed as a high quality alternative to traditional schools, what sets Academy of Excellence apart from others, are their academic programs that prepare students for high school and beyond. Students in grades Kindergarten through Eighth, receive individualized tailor-made programs incorporated with fun ways of learning. Having struggled initially, today, the school is performing “plus” with students excelling.
Academy of Excellence Charter School has two campuses: the Phoenix campus serving 250 students and the rural Coolidge campus with 48 students is preparing for expansion. Founded in 1997, the school is a dream realized by a former teacher, Ms. Brenda Nelson, who built it brick-by-brick. It has come to be known as a school of readers, writers and productive thinkers.
AOE ensures students gain a solid knowledge base in all the subjects taught under the standards-based curriculum followed by the school. They are exposed to numerous programs to help them succeed, one of which is “Power Up” that develops an enthusiasm for math by solidifying the basics.
The school finds a helping hand in several saviors, such as the Tanner Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, where needy students are provided all sorts of clothing required by them. The school continues to be successful in its goal of leaving a lasting impact on the students, to help them succeed in every possible way.
