All Aboard Charter School opened in 2001 for students in kindergarten through 4th grades in Phoenix. The entire curriculum is centered around the child, which works to provide a learning environment that works with the complete child instead of just the academic aspects of learning. Core subjects meet or exceed state standards with an emphasis of reading and literacy.
The school works a bit different from just learning from textbooks with an approach that allows the students to be involved in their own learning process. The students own interests are used to help build the perfect learning environment so each child can receive the best education in a caring learning environment. The literature-based curriculum is used throughout the curriculum including math and language arts while introducing diverse educational tools and methods to ensure each student can excel. A few examples of the methods used in the classroom at All Aboard Charter School include entire class lessons, one on one instruction, small groups, free exploration, personal lessons, and experiential opportunities. Students will receive teacher instruction to help them with creative projects including calendar activities, sharing, and center choice time.
Parents are very involved in the school, events, and their students. The school provides parent workshops that help to instill the desire to learn in the students as well as ensure parents know how to help their children succeed and the methods that are being used to help their child accomplish their goals. The curriculum includes Saxon math, Harcourt language arts, Harcourt science, social studies weekly, and character building program. Classrooms are small enabling the teacher to provide a more one on one instruction for students that might need the extra attention.
Third graders were given the Arizona’s Instrument to Measure Standards test as required by the state. The students were tested in the knowledge of reading and math to learn if they were mastering the skills; 95% of students met or exceeded the requirements with the state average of students meeting or exceeding the requirements was 76% and in math 37% of students met or exceeding requirements with the state average being 68%.
Parents are very happy with the curriculum, staff, and teachers at the school and are impressed with the way in which their students are doing in the courses.
