Alain Leroy Locke Charter High School is now known as Ánimo Locke Charter High School 3 and is a part of the Green Dot Public Schools. The school originally opened in 1967, but in 2007 voted to give the control of Locke High School to Green Dot Public Schools and at that time became a charter school. In 2008, the school reopened with six college prep schools, which are commonly referred to as Locke Family of High Schools. The college prep curriculum prepares students for their remaining years of school after graduating high school. The focus of the school is to prepare students for college.

The school has a bad reputation as mentioned by parents; however, this is changing since the school is now part of the Locke Family of High Schools. Some students expressed they are not happy in the school and bullying is an issue. Parents on the other hand, expressed that these issues are getting under control due to the wonderful administration and the caring teachers. Students are enjoying going to school for the most part and like most of the teachers. Teachers are encouraging and the curriculum is challenging which some students expressed make you do your best if you are to succeed. The main complaint is that the building is old and there is not enough parent involvement.
Since the school has gone under new management and working on providing a safe environment the curriculum may be suffering a bit. The results of the California Standards tests were below average.
To ensure that the school fits your child and that you are comfortable with your child attending the school, it would be in your best interest to take a tour of the school. Talking with other parents that have children attending the school as well as a few teachers may give you a better idea if the school is good fit for your family.
