Antioch Charter Academy II opened in 2007 to serve students in kindergarten through 6th grades. The school offers the Montessori Method which works with a child’s own natural abilities that promotes independent discovery. The school uses a variety of teaching methods including peer teaching and multi age grouping. The multi age grouping is a new and unique way for students to learn without the feeling of trying to keep up with peers. The school offers a caring and supportive community where teachers and staff work with students on a personal basis. Antioch Charter Academy II also uses other methods to help students learn which includes multiple intelligences, which allows students to learn within their own style. The categories of intelligence recognized include naturalist, bodily, visual, linguistic, self-smart (intra-personal), people smart (inter-personal), and logical.

Along with core subjects, the school offers physical education classes and yoga.

Parents are quite pleased with Antioch Charter Academy II and stated that their children are growing and developing while becoming more self-confident. The school is open, friendly, nurturing, and encouraging. The Montessori is great allowing students to be expressive and learn on their own while also learning how to work in groups. The best part of all that parents recognize with Antioch Charter Academy II is that their children can work within their ability and learn to become life long learners that truly enjoy learning. Most parents are very happy that parent involvement is encouraged which makes it feel more like a large family than a school.

The Academic Performance Index showed the school had growth over the previous year. With the California Standards Tests across all grade levels and courses, the majority of the results were above average, but there were some that were average and a few below average.

With the comments of parents and the growth in academic performance, the school is providing an excellent education for students. It would still be a good idea to learn more about the learning environment as the Montessori Method is completely different from traditional school settings. Most students learn better with this method, however, you should ensure that the school is a good fit for your family.
