Aspire Capitol Heights Academy opened in 2003 in Sacramento to provide an alternative to traditional school for students in kindergarten through 5th grades. The school provides students with the necessary tools to prepare for the rest of their educational years as well as college years. Aspire Capitol Heights Academy is part of the Aspire Public Schools which is rated among the top performing schools in the US. The school offers a quality education to low-income families to help their students achieve a college education.
Every student that chooses to attend an Aspire school is provided with the skills they need to be able to meet all the requirements to enter a college or university upon high school graduation. One of the programs that is helping students achieve their goals is the College for Certain education.
The Aspire Capitol Heights Academy uses varied teaching methods or strategies as does other Aspire Public Schools, which include explicit instruction, apprenticeship, distributed practice, massed practice, inquire, project based instruction, and problem solving. Along with core subjects, the school offers computer arts, dance, band, drawing, theater, basketball, physical education classes, soccer, academic contests, debate, yearbook, student council, and science & technology.
Most parents praise the principal and teachers stating that they go above and beyond to know students personally and take an interest in students to ensure they achieve their goals. Parents are very pleased with the progress they are seeing with their children and how much they enjoy going to school. A few parents stated that there is some bullying issues but others stated that the teachers are working toward handling every situation.
According to the Academic Performance Index, Aspire Capital Heights Academy had quite a bit of growth in their academic performance when compared to the year before. The percentage of students that exceeded the state average in core subjects according to the California Standards Tests was very good. Most students across all grades were above average with only a couple of courses being in the average range.
The school is providing the tools for students to succeed and become productive members of their communities. It is still a good idea to take a tour of the school to ensure it is a good fit for your family.
