Aspire Gateway Academy Charter opened in 2010 in Stockton to provide students in kindergarten through 5th grades with an alternative to traditional schools. The school offers personalized lesson plans that ensure that each student can learn in their own style and in the manner that serves them best. Aspire Gateway Academy Charter
is part of the Aspire Public Schools. The network of schools are found nationwide are among the top performing schools in America often working with low income families.
Students that attend one of the schools in the network are provided with the skills that will follow them during their remaining years in school as well as into life. One of the acclaimed programs that is seen in the group of schools is the College for Certain education. At this time, the program has 12,000 students in schools across the nation with the majority of the student body being Latino and Black and often at risk of not completing high school let alone attending college.
The Aspire Gateway Academy Charter uses a variety of teaching methods utilized at all Aspire School including distributed practice, massed practice, inquire, project based instruction, explicit instruction, apprenticeship, and problem solving.
Most parents are thrilled with the progress they are seeing in their children once they enroll them in Aspire Gateway Academy Charter. Students that were having a difficult time in other schools are happy to do their homework and enjoy going to school. The teachers are very helpful and caring. The staff and administration are very nice and help students feel important. There is quite a bit of parent involvement which makes the school have an at home atmosphere. The only downside is the lack of extra curricular activities.
The percentage of students that passed the California Standards Tests were above average in most cases. Fifth grade was a bit below average. Overall, the school had academic growth as noted by the Academic Performance Index.
The school is doing a very good job of providing students with a learning environment that will help them succeed and desire a college education. Even in the lower grade levels, teachers are discussing college and working with students to instill the desire to become life long learners.
