Aspire Millsmont Academy opened as a charter school in 2004 to serve at risk students in Oakland. The school provides a unique learning environment that offers personal lesson plans that help students become life long learners and even at a young age instill the desire to attend college. The school serves students in kindergarten through 5th grades. Aspire Millsmont Academy is part of the Aspire Public Schools network which is found among the top performing schools in the nation that serves low-income families.

Students that attend one of the Aspire schools are provided with a lesson plan that meets their own unique learning style, which will help them prepare for the rest of their educational years. One of the programs found at Aspire Public Schools is the College for Certain education. the program serves students that are considered at risk of not completing high school.

The Aspire Millsmont Academy uses the learning methods found as all Aspire Schools including distributed practice, massed practice, inquire, project based instruction, explicit instruction, apprenticeship, and problem solving. The school does not offer any extra curricular activities, but does offer an array of languages including Spanish, Latin, Italian, French, Russian, Hebrew, Korean, Cantonese, mandarin, Tagalog, Japanese, Arabic, and German

Parents are impressed with the unique learning styles that are available at Aspire Millsmont Academy providing students with a personal learning environment. The school stresses college even at lower grades and instills the desire to become life long learners. The teachers and staff are supportive and the principal is excellent. The curriculum is challenging and students enjoy attending school.

The Academic Performance Index showed that Aspire Millsmont Academy did not have any academic growth from the previous year and the California Standards Tests had students across all grades below state averages in most courses.

The school is doing a good job preparing students for the remainder of their school years. It would be a good idea to learn more about the test scores before enrolling your child in the school.
