Aspire River Oaks Charter School opened as a public charter school in 2001 for students in kindergarten through 5th grades. As part of the Aspire Public School network, the school offers lesson plans that cater to a student’s own learning style to ensure success. Aspire Public Schools are among the top performing schools in the US serving low-income families. On average, the school has an enrollment of just over 350 students per year.
Aspire Schools provide students with a safe, nurturing, and caring learning environment and stress the importance of receiving a quality education which does include attending a college or university. The school begins in the early school years to help instill the desire of learning in students so they can excel and become life long learners. The College for Certain is the motto as well as the program used in Aspire Schools to provide students with the tools to ensure they meet the requirements to attend a college upon graduation from high school.
The Aspire River Oaks Charter School offers the same learning styles offered at other schools in the network that include explicit instruction, apprenticeship, inquire, project based instruction, distributed practice, massed practice, and problem solving. Along with core subjects, Aspire River Oaks Charter School offers drama, painting, band, physical education classes, community service, academic contests, yearbook and science & technology.
Parents are proud that Aspire River Oaks is among the top rated schools in the area, which has won awards including California Distinguished School, Education Excellence’s Honor Roll, and the Title 1 Academic Achievement Award. The curriculum is challenging and encourages students to do their best with caring teachers that are devoted to the school and the students. The only complaints are that parents would like to see a better school menu and more sports programs.
The API showed that Aspire River Oaks had academic growth over the previous year and according to the California Standards Tests, students in most grades across most courses were above state averages or average.
The school is an asset in the community helping at risk students receive a quality education that prepares them for their educational years as well as socially. It would still be a good idea to take a tour of the school to make sure you are comfortable with the learning environment.
