Bowman Charter School opened in 2005 for students in kindergarten through 8th grades. The school uses a very unique curriculum that is based on the ideas found in the books by E. D. Hirsch, Jr., known as Core Knowledge. The curriculum strives to develop cultural literacy that is orderly but that allows creativity for both teachers and students.
Along with core subjects, Bowman Charter School provides other activities students can join including Performing Arts, robotic club, physical education classes, cross-country, track, basketball, and volleyball.
Most parents are very pleased with the small class sizes and the attentive teachers. A few stated that the school does not offer the extra help needed by students with special needs, however, other parents have expressed great progress with their children without any issues at all. Students are very happy and enjoy the school and the teachers. Some students did express they would like to see a few more extra curricular activities.
The Academic Performance Index showed academic growth over the base score of 864 to 884. The percentage of students at Bowman Charter School that passed the California Standards Tests was above average across the board in all grade levels and courses except for 3rd grade math missing the average by only 1%.
Even though a few parents showed some concern, the test results and comments of students and parents show that the school is doing a very good job providing students with an exceptional education. Of course, you should still take a tour to ensure the learning environment will fit your child’s learning style before enrolling.
