Canyon Pointe Academy opened their doors in 2002 to provide an alternative education to students in kindergarten through sixth grades in a charter school setting. Along with the core subjects, the administration understands the importance of social activities to help children excel on all levels. The extra curricular activities offered at Canyon Pointe Academy include drama, painting, photography, dance, chorus, computer arts, and band along with clubs such as programs yearbook, student government, newspaper, academic contests, and community service. Sports available include yoga, volleyball, softball, soccer, physical education, football, cheerleading, baseball, and basketball. The school also teaches Japanese and Spanish.
In most cases, parents are very pleased with the school including the curriculum, teachers, and staff. The teachers push students to excel while providing a helping hand to those that need the extra attention. Students have expressed how much they enjoy attending the school and their teachers. The learning environment is one where each student can excel both academically and socially while meeting all the requirements set by the state with most exceeding the standards.
The only complaints with the school are the lunch program that does not offer many healthy choices and each item is purchased individually. The school also does not have a PTA or other parent involvement; however, volunteering is always welcomed.
