Cecil Avenue Math and Science Academy opened in 2010 to provide students with a quality education that focuses on math and science. The charter school expects students to do their best while instilling the desire to become life long learners. The school is a community school offering a multicultural learning environment with 76% Hispanic. The school offers a variety of programs that helps students academically as well as socially while treating each student as an individual.

Along with core subjects, Cecil Avenue Math and Science Academy offers Cecil Computer Crew, Rock Band, ASB, Power Program, and Cheerleading.

Parents are very happy with the education their children are receiving as well as the nurturing environment and the cultural differences that helps them succeed in our world today. Students expressed they enjoy going to school and are excited about every day. The teachers and staff are very helpful and more like family which makes the day go even better. Parents expressed that parent involvement is high which also helps with the family environment.

The Academic Performance Index showed academic growth from 739 to 744.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students that passed the exams were below average except for 7th grade algebra I with 97% passing the exam while the state average was 86%.

It would be a good idea to learn more about the curriculum since the school focuses on math and science but the percentage of students passing the state exams were below state averages even in most math courses and science. However, the school did show a growth in academic performance, so this may be a great school for your child. The best way to know is to talk with other parents before making your decision.
