Choice 2000 On-Line School opened in 1994 as the first public high school that is completely online for students in 9th through 12th grades. Students in the counties of San Diego, Orange, Imperial, San Bernardino, and Riverside can attend the school and enjoy a live virtual classroom environment. Students can receive homework assignments and turn in their assignments online. The courses are held in real time via computer and take place at various times during the day just like a traditional school. The school is not a self-paced school but holds classes just like a traditional school only via computer. The educational model used is the trimester model to help with credit recovery or even early graduation. The education tracks that students can choose include early graduation, community college concurrent enrollment, credit recovery, and traditional.

Along with core subjects, the school offers extra curricular activities, which include dance, computer arts, drama, photography, and drawing. The only sports offered are physical education classes. Special programs offered include community service, yearbook, academic contests, and student government.

Parents stated the school is excellent and they really like that their children are getting quality at home education. The curriculum is challenging and fast paced so students stay busy and do not become bored. Students expressed they like going to school at home, but do miss spending time with their friends.

The Academic Performance Index showed academic growth from 630 to 652. The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students passing the exams was all below average across all grades and all subjects. Examples of the percentages include 11th grade history 27% with the state at 48%, 10th grade Algebra I 7% with the state at 13%, and 9th grade English Language Arts 48% with the state at 57%.

the California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The percentage of students passing this exam shows a better percentage than the other exams with 80% passing the English Language Arts and 73% passing the math exam.

The percentage of students passing the Exit exam is good so they have a good graduation rate. If you are considering enrolling your child in Choice 2000 On-Line School, it would be a good idea to learn more about the curriculum with the test scores being below average.
