Classical Academy High School is a charter school that opened in 2006 to provide a personalized learning environment for students in 9th through 12th grades. The school prepares students for college or to join the workforce upon graduation. The school meets all requirements set forth by the state along with the requirements to enter the University of California.
The school offers a college prep curriculum as well as honors, advanced placement and electives with advanced placement courses in world history, calculus AB, US government, Language & Composition, Biology, and British Literature. Electives offered include Leadership, Work Experience, Photography, Yearbook, Art, Digital Media, Debate, Dance, Speech, Office Aide, Teacher’s Aide, Drama, Music Appreciation, Choir, Play Production, and Robotics.
The different curriculum models used at Classical Academy High School are Advanced placement courses, Accelerated credit learning, gifted, honors track, standards based, independent study, and Quantum Learning Network. Along with core subjects, the school offers soccer and volleyball.
Parents are very happy with the school stating that they are doing a great job preparing students for college. Teachers are caring and devoted and work with students on an individual basis. Students really love the school; however, they would like to see more AP classes, sports, and student clubs.
The Academic Performance Index showed a small decline in academic growth from 853 to 851. The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students passing the exams was mainly above average, however, a few grade levels were below average in a couple of courses such as 11th grade Algebra II with only 3% of the students passing the exam.
The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The percentage of students passing the exams was excellent with 96% in English Language Arts and 94% in math.
