Classical Academy is a charter school as is part of the Classical Academies Organization opening their doors in 1999 for students in kindergarten through 8th grades. The school takes pride in working along side of parents to provide the best possible education and learning environment so all students can succeed. The school offers personal attention to each student and prepares him or her for the remainder of his or her education years while instilling the desire to be a life long learner. Students are given every opportunity to reach their goals with personalized instruction provided in their own learning style. The curriculum models used include core knowledge, independent study, gifted, classical, and high performing.
Along with core subjects, Classical Academy provides extra curricular such as sculpture, chorus, band, dance, computer arts, painting, drama, photography, orchestra, and film production. Languages taught include Cantonese, Arabic, French, Hebrew, German, Italian, Spanish, Latin, Korean, Russian, Japanese, Tagalog, and Mandarin. Sports offered include baseball, badminton, basketball, fencing, yoga, volleyball, tennis, swimming, physical education classes, swimming, golf, martial arts, track, softball, football, soccer, water polo, and cross-country. Other programs available include student council, yearbook, multimedia, debate, and science & technology.
Parents expressed the school offers a nurturing as well as a respectful environment. The teachers are amazing and work with each student on their own level to help them succeed. Students love going to school, like their teachers, and enjoy all the great activities the school offers.
The Academic Performance Index showed academic growth from 845 to 855. The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students passing the exams was mainly above average across all grade levels and courses. A few grades were below average in math.
