Country Gardens Charter School opened in Laveen in 2000 to provide students in kindergarten through 12th grades with an alternative to public school. The school strives to work with the whole child to ensure that each student will be able to reach their goals and become productive citizens of society as well as become leaders of their community.
Along with the core subjects that meet or exceed the standards set forth by the state of Arizona, Country Gardens Charter School offers extra curricular activities. The extra curricular activities and clubs include computer arts, band, film production, photography, sculpture, theater, drawing, community service, multimedia, yearbook, and science & technology. Sports offered at the school include football, volleyball, wrestling, physical education classes, and basketball.
Reviews of Country Gardens Charter School is very mixed with some students and parents praising the hands on learning environment where teachers are thoughtful and caring. On the other hand, the majority of students and parents complain about mice, rats, and other animals roaming the school inside and out. Students are expected to care for farm animals including cleaning up feces. Some stated the school staff chooses favorites while the rest of the students are just there.
Other parents were very happy with the progress they have seen in their children both academically and socially. The hands on field trips to such places as Yellowstone Park are learning experiences that students will remember for a lifetime. One student was very happy that she had earned her Food Handlers Card and became a Peer Mediator during her high school years.
It would be in your best interest to ask questions to administration regarding cleanliness of classrooms, licensing of teachers, and the maintenance of the school buses, which are all huge complaints of parents.
