Crescent View West Charter School Review

Crescent View West Charter School opened in 2004 for students that are at risk. The school offers students the ability for independent study that is between the ages of 14 and 19 as well as a credit retrieval program, and free tutoring. The learning environment centers on ensuring that each student will achieve his or her high school diploma. The school operates year round with several options including morning, afternoon, and night classes. Students work on one or two courses at a time instead of doing an entire day. The environment allows students to work at their own pace and when they prefer, which is great for students that may have jobs.

The school does not offer any extra curricular activities, sports, or student clubs.

Parents are impressed with the curriculum and the way in which the school works with each student personally. Teachers are mentioned at being very dedicated and willing to go above the norm to help each student. Students are very happy with the school and teachers and expressed they enjoy working on only one or two subjects at a time. They stated this helps them understand the course better.

The Academic Performance Index showed academic growth from 675 to 710. The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Crescent Valley Public Charter School was below average across the board. The California High School Exit Exam is given to students in 10th grade to ensure they will be ready to graduate from high school. The percentage of students passing the English Language Arts exam was 73% with the state average at 83% and in math 57% passed with the state average at 84%.

The school is doing an excellent job in working with at risk students and helping them graduate high school and receive their diploma. It would still be in your best interest to visit the school prior to enrolling your child.
