Desert Pointe Academy opened in 1996 to serve students in 7th through 12th grades that are at risk youth and dropouts. The average enrollment is 130 students per year. The school works to develop, administer, and provide social services and holistic education to students as well as work with their families.
Along with core subjects, Desert Pointe Academy also offers extra curricular activities and clubs students can join including painting, drama, chorus, band, computer arts, yearbook, academic contests, and community service. Sports available at the school include football, physical education classes, basketball, and cheerleading.
Parents agree the school is one that provides a quality education with caring teachers that work with each student independently to ensure they reach their goals. Students are happy they are learning and accomplishing their goals while learning how to become productive members of their community. Students expressed the way they are treated with respect and no separation between any groups of students. In the last few years all reviews of the school have been very positive even though a few years ago, one complaint was noted regarding special education students being in the same class with other students which may have been a bit distractive, however, this issue seems to be much better at the present time.
