Desert Springs Academy opened in 1999 for students in kindergarten through 8th grades. The charter school has an average enrollment of 150 students each year. The school prides itself on providing a positive learning environment that encompasses the “whole child” while striving to instill not only skills in academics but also in personal responsibility and citizenship. The school works with each student independently and allows them to learn at his or her own pace.
Along with core subjects the school offers extra curricular and clubs such as theater, dance, and yearbook. Sports available include softball, basketball, physical education classes, volleyball, and tennis.
Reviews by parents with children attending Desert Springs Academy were on the negative side more than the positive. Several parents took their children out of the school due to disrespectful teachers that were often rude to students. A few parents stated that talking with the principal did not work but caused more issues between their child and the teacher. One parent complained that the school does not have a janitor and it is the job of the 7th and 8th graders to pick up trash around the school.
On the other hand a few students and parents have not had any issues with the school and even enjoy being responsible for taking care of their own litter or trash. Class sizes are small which offer a better one on one educational opportunity. Since the reviews by parents and students are on both sides of the fence, it would be in your best interest to speak with a few parents that have students attending and talk with teachers and staff so you will become educated before enrolling your child.
