Discovery Plus Academy is a public charter school that opened in 1998 to provide students in grades kindergarten through 6th with an alternative to public education. On average there are 97 students enrolled per year creating small class sizes that allow students to have a quality and attentive learning experience. Along with the core subjects students have the opportunity to enjoy extracurricular activities including chorus and computer arts. The only sports available are physical education classes.

Parents expressed that the small class size that has not only a teacher but an aide most days of the week help to provide a nurturing and quality education where their children can receive a personal learning experience. Teachers are known to be caring as well as communicative providing progress reports often even before the report cards are sent home. One parent explained the bridges program is a welcome addition to the school which has helped their children excel. All parents are very pleased with the curriculum, teachers, and staff at Discovery Plus Academy.

Students want to attend school and are excited about learning which will aid in each one becoming life long learners. Teachers enjoy working at the school and knowing not only each student personally, but many of the parents due to the many ways in which parents are involved in the school.

Students at Discovery Plus Academy participated in the AIMS series of tests which determines if students are mastering core subjects. The percentages of students that passed or exceeded the exam along with the averages of students across the state are listed below.

In reading, 77% of 3rd graders passed or exceeded the exam with the state average at 76%, in writing 54% with the state at 79%, and in math 69% with the state at 68%.

In reading, 83% of 4th graders passed or exceeded the exam with the state average at 75%, in science 72% with the state at 60%, in writing 29% with the state at 83%, and in math 72% with the state at 65%.

In reading, 75% of 5th graders passed or exceeded the exam, in writing 42%, and in math 75%. State averages were not available for the year.
In reading, 90% of 6th graders passed or exceeded the exam, in writing 80%, and in math 80%. State averages were not available for the year.
