Downtown College Prep – Alum Rock opened in 2011 for students in 6th through 12th grades. The school offers a college prep curriculum to enable students the jump-start needed to be prepared for the rigorous curriculum found at colleges and universities. All students will take courses in science, social studies, math, and English along with 90 minutes of computer-based learning focusing which will aid in building as well as accelerating reading and math skills.

At this time, the school does not offer any extra curricular activities, student clubs, sports or other clubs.

Parents stated they are glad the school is offering a curriculum that is helping their children prepare for college. Some parents expressed that their students were doing much better after transferring to Downtown College Prep – Alum Rock. Teachers are very helpful and dedicated to ensuring each student reaches their full potential. Students expressed they enjoy attending the school and the teachers are very nice. On the downside, students would like to see extra curricular activities and sports offered.

The Academic Performance Index is at 797 without a base index at the time of this writing.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Downtown College Prep – Alum Rock was not available at the time of this writing.

The California Exit Exam is given to students in 10th grade to test their skills in math and English Language. The results were not available.

The school according to parents and students is providing a quality education and preparing them for their college years. Since the results of the exams were not available, it would be a good idea to speak with teachers and administration to learn more about the results before enrolling your child.
