Education for Change Achieve Academy opened in 2006 for students in 4th and 5th grades that are underserved in the community. The school offers a quality safe learning environment with small classrooms and dedicated teachers. The student body is diverse with 87% Hispanic or Latino, 5% Asian, 4% African American, 2% Filipino, and 1% white with the last 1% unspecified.
Along with core subjects, Education for Change Achieve Academy offers extra curricular activities including dance, ceramics, drawing, drama, film production, photography, and computer arts. Sports offered baseball, basketball, football, soccer, yoga, and physical education classes. The only other program available is community service. The school does not offer any student clubs at this time.
Parents expressed they truly enjoy the small class size. All stated the teachers, staff, and administration provide all the necessary tools and encouragement to ensure that each student can and will succeed. Students stated they like their teachers, but they would like to have a few student clubs to join. Most parents agree that the school is a welcome addition to the community.
The Academic Performance Index showed a decline in academic growth from 819 to 795. The goal statewide is a score of 800.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Education for Change Achieve Academy was mixed with percentages of students passing the exam above and below state averages. Examples include 81% of 4th graders passed the math exam with the state average at 71% and 28% of 5th graders passed the science exam with the state average at 60%.
