El Rancho Middle Charter School opened in 2002 for students in 7th and 8th grades providing students with a quality education with a rigorous curriculum and appealing activities. The program offered at El Rancho Middle Charter School provides students with lesson plans that encourage critical thinking in student-centered environment along with community opportunities. The school works to provide quality programs, which includes fine arts, technological skills, multi cultural awareness, and health exploration.
Along with core subjects, El Rancho Middle Charter School offers extra curricular activities including drama, drawing, dance, photography, chorus, orchestra, computer arts, and band. Sports available include baseball, physical education classes, tennis, volleyball, track, softball, basketball, cross-country, football, rock climbing, and soccer. Other programs available include science & technology, debate, yearbook, community service, academic contests, newspaper, and student council.
The opinion of parents is very mixed. Most expressed that teachers are not as helpful as they would like, have favorites, and are often rude to students. Other parents expressed their dislike of administration with the same comments being rude and not interested. On the other hand, a few parents had nothing but great things to say about the school and the teachers. Students were on both sides of the fence as well, stating they really like some of the teachers but there are some teachers they are not fond of at all.
The Academic Performance Index showed academic growth from 921 to 940. The goal statewide is a score of 800.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at El Rancho Middle Charter School was all above average across both grades and all subjects with the percent for 7th grade Algebra I and 8th grade geometry at 100%.
Since the comments from parents and students are very mixed but the test scores are all above average, it would be a good idea to talk with a few parents as well as take a tour of the school prior to enrolling your child. Your observations of students and teachers may give you an idea of the school better.
