Emerson Parkside Academy Charter School opened in 2001 to serve students in kindergarten through 5th grades with an alternative to traditional schools. The school offers small class sizes with an average of 640 students enrolled per year, thus allowing teachers to work more on a one on one strategy. The school offers a diverse student body with 44% White, 34% Hispanic or Latino, 10% African American, 2% Filipino, 1% Pacific Islander, 1% American Indian, and 5% multiple.
Along with core subjects, Emerson Parkside Academy Charter School offers extra curricular activities including drawing, drama, dance, chorus, computer arts, band, and orchestra. Other programs students can join are science & technology, community service, yearbook, academic contests, and student council.
The majority of the remarks from parents are positive, stating the school provides all the necessary tools for students to excel academically along with great activities that provide them with fun events. A few students stated that the office staff has changed and since that time, many of the field trips and other activities have been declined. Students expressed they like the teachers, curriculum, and the school, however, when it comes to office staff they would like to see the caring and devoted staff back instead of the ones that took their place.
The Academic Performance Index showed a decline in academic growth from 886 to 883. The goal statewide is a score of 800.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Emerson Parkside Academy Charter School was above average across all grade levels and all subjects.
Emerson Parkside Academy Charter School is providing an excellent education that helps students prepare for the remainder of their school years. It would still be a good idea to talk with parents and staff to ensure the learning environment is one in which your child will succeed.
