Envision Academy of Arts and Technology opened as a charter school in 2006 for students in 9th through 12th grades. The school offers a college prep project based curriculum in a nurturing learning environment. The school created an approach that increases engagement, understanding, and integration. Student will experience a challenging performance assessment system, real world experience in various workplaces, as well as arts and technology blended into core subjects.
Along with core subjects, Envision Academy of Arts and Technology offers extra curricular activities which computer arts, drama, dance, and film production. Sports available include basketball and cross-country. Other programs offered include science & technology, multimedia, and student council.
The comments of parents and students were very mixed. Most parents expressed the curriculum and the style of learning is very good. However, recently a few parents have seen more fighting among students with teachers saying nothing. Some students stated that bullying over the last year has increased and when reported, nothing is done by teachers. On the other hand, some students expressed they have no issues at the school and really enjoy attending the school. Some teachers are very helpful while others are rude as reported by students.
The Academic Performance Index showed a decline in academic growth from 641 to 606. The goal statewide is a score of 800.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams Envision Academy of Arts and Technology was below average across all grade levels and subjects. Previous years showed the percentages closer to average or above average.
The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The percentage of students passing the exam was 67% in English Language Arts with the state average at 83% and 62% in math with the state average at 84%.
With the test scores and the comments of parents and teachers, it would be a good idea to visit the school and talk with other parents. The test scores were better a few years ago, so it would be a good idea to learn what has changed at the school prior to enrolling your child.
