Escondido Charter High School opened in 1996 to offers students a school with small class sizes, college prep, honors, and advanced placement classes. The school provides a safe and close-knit learning environment so students can receive the individualized attention needed to succeed. Even though the school setting is traditional, the teaching model used is different offering students the opportunity to debate, enter into conversations, and interaction with other classmates. The project-based curriculum is one that has been proven to help students learn.
Along with core subjects, Escondido Charter High School offers extra curricular activities for students that wish to participate, which include drawing, drama, dance, chorus, photography, computer arts, film production, and band. Sports available are basketball, baseball, cross-country, football, soccer, wrestling, track, softball, golf, cheerleading, volleyball, and physical education classes. Other programs available include yearbook, debate, community service, newspaper, academic contests, and student government. The school also offers technology as a vocational program.
Parents like the school and they way in which parents are involved. Most parents expressed the school is amazing and offers students a variety of ways to show their unique talents in a safe learning environment. Most students are very happy attending the school and stated they are now interested in going to school unlike when they were attending a traditional school.
The Academic Performance Index showed a decline in academic growth from 849 to 838. The goal statewide is a score of 800.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Escondido Charter High School was above average in all grade levels and all subjects.
The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The percentage of students that passed the English Language Arts exam was 96% while the state average was 83% and in math 93% with the state average at 84%.
