Esperanza Montessori Academy opened in 2004 for students in kindergarten through 3rd grade to provide students with an alternative to public schooling. The school is 94% Hispanic with the majority of their homes speaking Spanish as the 1st language. The school helps students with learning English as well as core subjects with small classrooms and caring teachers.
Parents are very pleased with the teachers and staff that work with student on an individual basis to ensure their goals are met and that they have all the help they need with any and all subjects. The school not only provides a learning environment for basic subjects but works with the whole child to ensure they are ready to go to the next level of their educational needs. Students enjoy going to school and doing their homework. A few negative reviews were noted in that the school did not have a cafeteria and that no extra curricular activities are offered.
In the state of Arizona, beginning in 3rd grade all students attending a public school including a public charter school are required to participate in the AIMS series of tests. These tests measure if students are mastering core subjects. Percentages of students that passed or exceeded the exam are listed below along with state averages.
In reading, 63% of students passed or exceeded the exam with the state average at 76%, in writing 72% with the state at 79%, and in math 50% with the state at 68%.
