Franklin Phonetic Primary School opened in 1996 as a charter school to provide students in kindergarten through 8th grade with an alternative to public education. The school works to ensure the students have and opportunities to not only learn the basic subjects but to be involved in other extra curricular activities which helps students enjoy their school life.
The extracurricular activities offered at the school include computer arts, band, chorus, orchestra, dance, film production, drama, painting, and sculpture. Sports offered include football, cross country, basketball, soccer, volleyball, gymnastics, and physical education classes. The school also has a few special programs and student clubs such as debate, science & technology, yearbook, radio, newspaper, and student council.
Most parents are very pleased with the school, staff, and curriculum. On the other hand, a few complain that the school and teachers are very strict and expect students to be more like “robots”. From the reviews, you can see that there are more positive reviews than negative reviews. As with all schools, you have a few people that are dissatisfied with someone or even the way in which the school is managed. No classroom, no matter how small, can be a quality learning environment with disruptive students, thus the reason for strict guidelines that students must follow. Most parents recommend the school, love the teachers and staff, and state their children are doing very well and learning in a safe and nurturing environment.
One way to determine if students are learning and doing well in school is to look at the AIMS series of tests in Arizona. The tests measure students across the state in specific grades. Students at Franklin Phonetic Primary School participated in the testing.
Students in 3rd grade scored above the average students across the state in reading with 91% and the state at 76%, in writing 88% with the state at 79%, and in math 86% with the state at 68%.
Fourth graders did just as well with 100% passing or exceeding the standards for reading with the state at 75%, in science 96% with the state at 60%, in writing 98% with the state at 83%, and in math 96% with the state at 65%.
Fifth graders percentages were 92% in reading with the state at 79%, in writing 63% with the state 55%, and in math 86% with the state at 63%.
Sixth graders also scored higher that the average in reading with the percentage at 94% with the state at 81%, in writing 83% with the state at 56%, and in math 79% with the state at 59%.
In reading, 7th graders scored higher with a percentage of 93% passing or exceeding the standards with the state at 82%, in writing 84% with the state at 53%, and in math 77% with the state at 61%.
8th graders also scored higher than the state average in reading with a percentage of 85% with the state at 71%, in science 81% with the state at 63%, in writing 100% with the state at 86%, and in math 59% with the state at 54%.
With scores like these, the school must be doing something right so it would be in your best interest to talk with staff and other parents as the school is one that is above average in teaching students the skills they need to succeed.
