Gateway Early College High School Review

Gateway Early College High School opened in 1996 and on average has 225 students enrolled in 9th through 12th grades. The charter high school is an accelerated career focused educational environment with the goal to prepare students to pursue higher learning education or to enter the workforce. The school campus is on the same campus at the GateWay Community College to aid students with the ability to receive their high school diploma as well as an Associate’s Degree in five years or less.

The school has small class sizes which helps students have a more one on one opportunity with their teachers. The school does not offer any type of sports or physical education classes, but does offer drama, dance, and student clubs and special programs including yearbook and community service.

Parents are very pleased with the opportunity for their children to earn not only a high school diploma but also an Associate’s degree. Students are very happy with the teachers and also the chance they have to “catch up” on credits and to excel. The school offers a wonderful learning environment where students can and will succeed in their goals.

Students in the state of Arizona that attend a public school including public charter schools are required to participate in the AIMS series of tests. These tests measure if students are meeting or exceeding the standards set forth by the state. In order to graduate high school, students in 10th grade must meet the standards. Percentages of students in 10th grade at Gateway Early College High School that passed or exceeded along with percentages across the state are below.

Students did very well with 82% in reading with the state average at 78%, in science 48% with the state at 42%, in writing 79% with the state at 68%, and in math 81% with the state at 68%. The percentage of students that passed or exceeded the exam across the board was higher than the average of students in 10th grade in the state of Arizona.
