Guajome Park Academy opened in 1994 for students in 6th through 12th grades. The school offers a variety of learning methods including the IB Middle Years Programme for grades 6-10 and an optional IB Diploma Programme for grades 11-12. Along with this, several honors and Advanced Placement courses are available as well as project-based learning; the Arts program; advanced technology; college preparation counseling; and career counseling and preparation. Students also have the option of a dual enrollment in high school and a local community college. Guajome Learning Center provides small class sizes as well as great communication between staff, teachers, and parents.
Along with core subjects and the above-mentioned programs, Guajome Park Academy also offers extra curricular activities including drawing, drama, chorus, dance, band, orchestra, and computer arts. The sports available at the school are soccer, cross-country, volleyball, physical education classes, baseball, wrestling, track, and basketball. Other programs include science & technology, yearbook, and student government.
Parents stated the school is providing an exceptional education in a caring and nurturing environment with small classes. Parents expressed the school is very organized and all staff and teachers are devoted to the school and to students. Students stated the teachers are very nice, but they do expect you to follow the rules. Most students expressed the school is safe and a wonderful learning experience.
The Academic Performance Index showed academic growth from 812 to 854. The goal statewide is a score of 800.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Guajome Park Academy was mainly above average except for Algebra courses, geometry, and chemistry, which were only a few points below state average.
The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. In English Language Arts, 98% passed the exam with the state average at 83% and in math 94% passed with the average at 84%.
