Health Services Academy High School opened in 2009 for students in the 9th and 10th grade. They focus on career education in the heath field which is always looking for new professionals. This high school offers a college prep program and helps those in the community where underachievement and low income are problems.

This school has a hands on approach. They do focus on the core subjects but have other activities for students to engage in. Computer arts, dance, Spanish, Yoga, newspaper, student council, yearbook, science/technology and interests in the healthcare field are all offered. There are even internet programs an podcasts for learning.

The reviews for this academy are off the charts. The staff and teachers are amazing and they really care about their students. The coursework was stated as being unique and well rounded. The students loved the internships with one stating you get the best ones in the state.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase in academic growth from 752 to 797. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The test results showed an increase on the Earth Science exam by 9th graders with a passing rate of 67% and the state at 39%. Algebra I also saw an increase of 45% compared to the state average of 25%. 10th grade Science results were also up with 75% passing. State average was at 53%.

Every year 10th grade students are challenged with the California State Exit Exam in Math and English. 94% passed the Math exam. State was 84%. 97% passed the English exam. State was at 83%.
