Heather Elementary School opened in 1999 for students in grades Kindergarten through 4th. Core knowledge is their focus with high expectations. Each student is given the chance to succeed with a staff that is not only dedicated, but also caring to each individual student.

Core subjects are highly regarded at Heather, but the learning does not end there. Their writing program engages peer editing. Students can also participate in band, computer arts, chorus, drawing/painting, soccer, basketball, softball, baseball, P.E., technology, academic contests, student council and yearbook. Community service is also big at this elementary school.

Being an involved parent is what Heather wants and they do a great job at incorporating that. The school was cited as being very welcoming with teachers that really do care. Parents that have had to move their children away for different reasons stated that their children missed the school so much and even cried.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase from 917 to 929. The state average for California is 800. Parents could not be more impressed with this number.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

For 2nd graders to 4th graders the test results were all above the state average. For example, 4th grade Math had a 94% passing rate with the state at 71%. 3rd graders were at 87% with the state at 69% and 78% of 2nd graders passed their Math exam. State average was 64%.
