Heritage Peak Charter School Review

Heritage Peak Charter School opened in 2005 to provide students with an independent home study school environment. Each student is assigned a credentialed teacher that works with students on an individual basis to ensure their needs are met. The school does offer hybrid model instruction at the school as well as home based curriculum and enrichment electives. High school students also have the opportunity to have dual enrollment and attend college courses while working toward receiving their high school diploma.

Along with core subjects, Heritage Peak Charter School offers extra curricular activities including painting, and drama. The sports are track, physical education classes, and fencing. The only other program is science & technology.

Most parents are very happy with the school and like the teachers. Many stated the school is doing an excellent job providing a quality education. On the other hand, some parents are not fond of the principal and believe he is not as devoted to the students as some would like. Students really enjoy going to school and expressed how much they like other programs the school offers including Mad Science, Lego Engineering, GATE, and Art Classes

The Academic Performance Index showed quite a bit of growth in academic growth from 678 to 715. The goal statewide is a score of 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Heritage Peak Charter School was mainly below state averages. A few exceptions are 5th grade English Language Arts with 65% of students passing the exam with the state average at 63% and 9th biology at 66% with the average at 60%.

The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. In English Language Arts the percentage that passed the exam was 77% with the state average at 83% and in math 76% with the average at 84%.

With the percentages of students, passing the exams it would be a good idea to check out the school and talk with other parents before enrolling your child to ensure your child will receive a quality education.
