IFTIN (ICS) Charter School opened in 2006 for students in grades Kindergarten through Eighth. The main focus is on core subjects with a rigorous curriculum. Culture and compassion go a long way at IFTIN (ICS) Charter School with the school working closely with the parents. The majority of student body is Somali.

At IFTIN students can choose to participate in a variety of courses. The school offers such extra curricular activities as academic contests, newspaper, student council/government, community service, yearbook, Arabic, computer arts, science and technology. As for athletics, IFTIN offers football, soccer, basketball and physical education classes.

The school is like one big family and very supportive. Parents love a school where they are asked to be so involved. The academics are the priority and that is the way that it should be as expressed by most parents. Students really enjoy going to school and most teachers.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decline in academic growth from 790 to 762. The statewide goal in the state of California is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The students at IFTIN (ICS) Charter School were below the state averages in nearly all grades and subjects. There was one area where they were not. For 8th graders, 52% of them passed the History/Social Science Cumulative exam, which was the same as the state average.
