iQ Academy California-Los Angeles opened in 2010 for grades 6th through 12th who wish to pursue a full time online education. The school offers personalized, individual learning plans and an award-winning curriculum. This flexibility offers students a unique program with a self-paced learning plan.

Phone, email and chat all give students the support they need for any questions or concerns. Laptops are even given out to those who qualify. Core classes are provided as well as electives in art appreciation, Spanish, digital photography and web design to name a few. No other extra curricular activities or sports are offered.

Parents love iQ Academy! For parents that want to be a huge learning force in their child’s education this is the school for you. Everything you need is provided, teachers are helpful and there are even field trip days. Students really enjoy going to school at home, stated the field trips are very fun, and help them learn even more.

The Academic Performance Index showed quite a large increase in academic growth from 587 to 763. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The test results were above and below state averages with some on target with the averages. 62% of 7th grade students passed the English exam which is the exact percentage for the state average. In Math 27% passed with the state at 52%.

The California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) is used to test 10th grade high school students’ skills in English language arts and mathematics. The students at Academy California-Los Angeles received 95% on the English exam with the state at 83%. The state average was 84% on the Math exam with 83% of students passing.

Since the school is basically online, it would be a good idea to talk with teachers and administration to ensure your child will succeed. Not every child does well with an at home schooling program.
