KIPP Academy of Opportunity opened in 2003 for students in grades 5th through eighth. Just as the name implies they work to give each student the opportunity to succeed in every step of their academic and adult lives. This is achieved through knowledge, critical thinking skills and character traits. The charter school is providing families with the option of a charter school instead of a traditional school setting.
To succeed the KIPP Academy of Opportunity offers more than just core subjects. Students can choose from band, drawing/painting, Spanish, basketball, physical education classes, academic contests and student council/government.
The reviews of KIPP ranged quite high because the parents are impressed with how much the school wants parents to be involved. School events and progressive reports were also high on the list of what parents wanted and at this school, all is accomplished. Parents stated that the school goes above traditional schools to ensure parents know exactly how their child is doing. Students expressed they really like going to school, but would like to see more sports besides basketball.
The Academic Performance Index showed an increase in academic growth from 794 to 821. The California state goal is 800.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The students at KIPP Academy of Opportunity scored above and below the state averages according to subjects and grade levels. On the 8th grade Science exam an impressive 93% passed with the state at 66%. 65% passed the exam in Algebra I, with the state average at 49%. On the 6th grade English Language Arts exam, 59% of students passed which as the exact average of the state.
It would be a good idea before enrolling your child to learn more about the curriculum. You can speak with teachers or even parents that have students enrolled.
