KIPP Comienza Community Prep opened in 2010 for students in kindergarten through 3rd grade with a goal of adding a grade each year until they become a K-4 school. They focus on a strong academic program and each child’s unique character traits.
Along with core classes students can choose from computer arts, drawing/painting, and Spanish, science and technology courses.
The parent reviews of this school are mixed. Some parents feel that the teachers are not there for the right reasons. Other parents stated that staff could be rude at time. The majority of parents praise the school for its involvement in the student’s lives and they love the academics. The long 8-hour days also received mixed reviews as well. Students like their teachers.
The Academic Performance Index was not available at this time.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The results of the exams were not available at the time of this writing.
Since the comments from parents are mixed and there are no results of the exams, it would be a good idea to talk with staff and administration to learn more about the curriculum. Talking with other parents may also give you an idea if the school is the best learning environment for your child.
