KIPP San Francisco Bay Academy opened in 2003 for students in grades 5th through 8th as a charter school. The focus is to give each child the opportunity to lead productive lives. The academic program is challenging with a focus on knowledge, critical thinking skills and character traits.

Among the core subjects, students can also choose from extra curricular activities including band, orchestra, drawing/painting, soccer, basketball and track.

Parent expressed they were very impressed with KIPP San Francisco Bay Academy school and its staff. They love that their children are showing improvement in areas such as reading and the kids love their classes. The Academic Performance Index showed an increase in academic growth from 859 to 907. The statewide goal for all California schools is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The test results for students at KIPP San Francisco Bay Academy showed above average scores for all grades on all subject exams. On one such exam, the students scored the exact same percentage as the state. The English Language Arts exam for 5th graders showed a passing score of 63%, which was the same as the state average.
