KIPP San Jose Collegiate Review

KIPP San Jose Collegiate opened in 2008 for students in grades 9th through 11th. The school provides a rigorous, academic program to prepare students for their journey into college. Four-year colleges and universities are the goal for all students attending KIPP San Jose Collegiate. Students are also provided with a college program for all that wish to participate.

The first students graduated from KIPP San Jose Collegiate in 2012 with 95% of those accepted to a university or 4-year college.

At this time, KIPP San Jose Collegiate does not offer any extra curricular activities, sports, student clubs, or other programs.

For students and parents alike the comments about KIPP San Jose Collegiate are amazing. Parents love the college prep and for students they have the opportunity to learn who they are and what is expected of them later in life. There are rules like keeping your shirt tucked in and not ever being late, that can be annoying, but the end results are worth it, or this is what most students expressed. Students on the other hand, are not happy that the school does not have any sports or clubs available.

The Academic Performance Index showed a slight academic decrease from 909 to 900. The statewide goal for California is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The test results for students at KIPP San Jose Collegiate showed both high and low test scores as compared to the state averages. For example, 72% of 10th grade students passed the World History exam with the state average at 46% while 52% passed the Science exam and the state was at 53%.

California uses the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) to test high school students’ skills in English language arts and mathematics. The students here showed a score of 98% in English with the state at 83% and 97% in Math with the state at 84%.

The school is doing an exceptional job providing students with the tools needed to succeed. If you would like more information about KIPP San Jose Collegiate, schedule a tour today.
