Leadership High School Review

Leadership High School opened in 1997 for high school students in grades 9th through 12th. The education is based upon college prep mixed with a rigorous academic program. The focus is to provide different learning styles to meet the educational needs of every student. They raise leaders here, not just high school graduates.

Students can participate in computer arts, video/film production, dance, theater/drama, Spanish, soccer, basketball, softball, baseball, student council, community service and yearbook.

What parents love about Leadership High School is the dedicated staff, the parental involvement and the goal to become leaders in the real world. Students admit that the academic program is tough, but in the end it is worth it. Compared to public schools this school is doing more for its students and it shows.

The Academic Performance Index showed a slight decline in academic growth from 650 to 649. The California statewide goal is a score of 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. All of the test scores at Leadership High School showed numbers below the state averages. For example, 5% of 11th grade students passed the Chemistry exam with the state average at 34%.

California uses the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) to test high school students’ skills in English language arts and mathematics. At Leadership High School the students again fell below the state averages in both subjects.

Even though parents and students are very fond of teachers and the curriculum, it would be a good idea to take a tour. With the test results below state averages you may wish to ensure the curriculum is good for your child before enrolling.
