Leadership Public Schools – Hayward opened in 2005 for stunets in grades 9th through 12th. The school focuses on college prep courses. The school has the desire to help each student to reach their fullest potential with high expectations, leadership, along with strong parent and community involvement.

Along with the college prep courses and core subjects students can choose from a variety of extracurricular activities to choose from. Those are dance, drawing/painting, Spanish, academic contests, student council/government, community service, yearbook and vocational programs in automotive, construction/building trades, health careers and technology. The athletics program includes cross country, soccer, basketball, cheerleading, softball, track, baseball and yoga.

The parent reviews of Leadership Public Schools – Hayward are very high. The school gives every student the opportunity to succeed and the teachers are very friendly and helpful. Parent involvement is also very big at Hayward. Students expressed they like the curriculum and the opportunities found at the school.

The Academic Performance Index showed a slight decrease in academic growth from 866 to 861. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The test results for students at Leadership Public Schools – Hayward showed high scores across each subject and grade level. All state averages were exceeded.

California uses the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) to test high school students’ skills in English language arts and mathematics. The students exceeded here over the state averages in both test subjects.
