Leading Edge Academy – Mountain View Queen Creek Review

The Leading Edge Academy opened their Mountain View Queen Creek charter campus in 2005. The charter school is one that focuses on back to basics that will help student develop character traits for students in kindergarten through 5th grades. Along with core subjects, the school administration knows just how important other activities are to work with the whole child. Due to this, the school offers other activities, sports, and student clubs including painting, chorus, photography, cross-country, physical education classes, track, volleyball, soccer, student government, yearbook, and academic contests.

The reviews of the school are quite diverse with one parent stating the school does not provide the best math curriculum, however, when you look at test scores this does not seem to be a true statement. Other parents complain of teachers choosing favorites, the school being dirty, and no registered nurse available in case of emergencies. On the other hand, most parents are very pleased with the school explaining their child is doing very well and progressing. The curriculum is challenging and their children enjoy attending school. One parent expressed that the Character Counts program is excellent and helps to instill great values.

Students at Leading Edge Academy participated in the AIMS series of tests. The percentage of 3rd graders that passed or exceeded the exam above state averages was seen in reading, writing, and math. 4th graders were higher in reading and writing, while being equal to state averages in math. 5th graders were below average in writing, but above average in reading and math. 6th graders were above average in all core subjects while 7th graders were lower in math but above average in other courses. 8th graders were higher in all subjects except for writing which was just a bit below average. 10th graders on the other hand were above average in reading and science but below average in writing and math.

With the test scores up and down, along with the reviews of parents, it would be best to tour the school before enrolling your child. There seems to be a few issues in the school, which means you should move with caution with enrollment.
