Little Singer Junior High School is a charter school home on the Navajo Reservation. The school provides an alternative to public school for American Indians to develop socially, physically, emotionally and intellectually with the main focus on Navajo culture. Along with the core subjects, the school provides activities such as cross-country, basketball, gymnastics, football, softball, soccer, volleyball, and student government.
Parents are very pleased with the school and small close-knit environment. Teachers are devoted and work with each student on a personal level to help them succeed. Not even one parent had a complaint at all with the school, the curriculum or the learning environment.
When you look at the percentage of students that passed the AIMS series of exams the story seems to be quite different from what parents have expressed. Seventh graders were below state average by 29%, in writing by 37%, and in math by 45%. Eighth graders were below average by 27%, in science by 55%, and in math by 37%.
With such low percentages of students passing the exams, I would look elsewhere for a school. Of course, things may have changed and it would be in your best interest to check out the school thoroughly before enrolling your child.
