Magnolia Science Academy – 1 Reseda opened in 2002 for students in 6th through 12th grades. The curriculum is based around science and math where all students must take forty credits of science. Technology also plays a big part in the curriculum.

Along with core subjects the school offers extra curricular activities, sports, and other programs including computer arts, dance, sculpture, drawing/painting, theater, Spanish, academic contests, student council, newspaper, community service, yearbook, science & technology, football, soccer, basketball, cheerleading, physical education classes, and volleyball. One vocational program is offered in technology.

Parents of Magnolia Science Academy – 1 Reseda stated that they are proud to have their children attend the school. Grades have improved and so has self-esteem. The student’s love the small class size and expressed the teachers are great.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decrease in academic growth from 807 to 805.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

As for test results for Magnolia Science Academy – 1 Reseda the students showed high test scores in some areas and low test scores in others. For example, 78% of 7th graders passed their Math exam against the 52% state average. 59% of 8th grade students passed their English exam, which was the same as the state average.

California uses the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) to test high school students’ skills in English language arts and mathematics. the students passed the state averages on both exams.
