The campus offers a cafeteria, garden, gym, art room, computer lab, internet access, multi purpose room, and a kitchen. Along with core subjects, other activities are encouraged including chorus, instrumental music lessons, vocal coaching, band, dance, drama, improv, computer arts, drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, film production, basketball, cheerleading, flag football, tennis, cheerleading, golf, physical education classes, soccer, chess, community service, gardening, student government, and yearbook.
The majority of parents are very pleased with the school, staff, and teachers explaining all are caring and giving individuals. The school offers small class sizes, which provides more one on one personal attention to meet the needs of all students. Teachers work with students at their own ability and level, which is amazing. A few parents stated the school does not have enough funds and has even run out of food in the past. However, these issues have seemed to be resolved. Other parents would like to see more parent involvement in the higher grades.
Students at Mesa Arts Academy participated in the AIMS series of exams administered to measure if students are mastering core subjects. Percentages of third graders that passed the exam in reading, writing, and math were higher than state average. Fourth graders were higher in reading, science, and math, but were 3% lower in writing. One hundred percent of fifth graders passed the reading exam, while in writing and math the percentages were above average. Sixth and Seventh graders were above average in all cores subjects. One hundred percent of eighth graders passed the exam in writing and math, while being above average in reading and below average in science.
With the great reviews of parents and the AIMS scores, the school seems to be doing a quality job of educating students. Of course, you should still visit the school to ensure it is a good fit for your child.
