Midtown Primary School opened in 1997 as a public charter school for students in kindergarten through 5th grades, with an average enrollment of 95 students per year. The school offers personalized daily lessons, without any grading system. The focus is on reading. Along with core subjects, the school offers chorus, cheerleading, rock climbing, physical education classes, yoga, and community service.
Parents are very pleased with the curriculum and the way in which their children are growing and learning. Parents also expressed the teachers are nurturing and caring which makes the environment a more family atmosphere. The teachers are excited to come to work and have small class sizes, which allow them to work one on one with the students. Teachers enjoy the groups that are offered for students where parents, teachers, and students can enjoy the fun such as holiday night, zoo night, talent show, young explorers, girl scouts, harvest fest, pumpkin fest, water day, and family picnic to name a few.
Students at Midtown Primary School participated in the AIMS series of tests. For a school that does not grade, the results were quite amazing with the percentage of third and fifth graders passing the exams in reading, writing, and math higher than the state average. Fourth graders did just as great with results higher than average in reading, science, and writing, however, math was below average.
The scores are a good indicator that the school is providing a quality education even if the 4th grade was a bit below the state average. There were no bad comments from parents, students, or teachers, so the school is better than most in the area.
