Natomas Charter School opened in 1993 for Kindergarten through 12th grades. The objective of the school is to use a variety of innovative educational programs that meet the needs of a diverse population of students. This creates a well rounded experience for each and every student.

Students are offered core classes as well as other extracurricular activities for those that wish to participate. The activities offered include a variety of art classes, music, performing arts, sciences, service learning, technology and the visual arts. The school does not offer any sports, which is a complaint of the majority of students. Most students expressed they would like to be able to play sports like football, soccer, basketball, and baseball as well as join student clubs like yearbook or student council.

The overall opinion of Natomas Charter School by parents is that they love the school! They love the strong performing arts influence and the teachers have been cited as being the best in the district. Fine arts are also a strong influence here allowing for creatity at every turn. When the students at Natomas Charter School were asked about their school, they said that they liked their teachers and felt as if they really cared. Also for any student that loves to act, draw, paint or any other type of art Natomas is the best place to be.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase in academic growth from 896 to 915. The statewide goal is 800 making parents very pleased with the hard work of their children and the teachers.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

For the students at Natomas Charter School their test results were mixed across all grade levels and test subjects. On the 3rd grade Math exam 53% of students passed against the state average of 69%. On the 8th grade Geometry exam 100% of the students tested passed. The state average was 87%.

California uses the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) to test high school students’ skills in English language arts and mathematics. The students at Natomas Charter School excelled greatly in both areas. 100% passed the English exam with the state at 83% and 97% passed the Math exam with the state at 84%.
