Nestor Language Academy Charter opened in 1994 for students in grades Kindergarten through eighth. The focus is on individualized academic instruction so that each child can move at his or her own pace to achieve positive results. The goal is to combine student, parent and credentialed teacher together to develop a personalized educational plan that focuses on the student’s learning style, interests and abilities.

The major complaint of parents and students is the lack of extra curricular activities, student clubs, and sports. Students stated they would like the opportunity to join such things as choir, computer arts, and sports like soccer or volleyball.

The parents of Nestor Language Academy Charter have a great relationship with the teachers. This makes the whole learning process very successful and is why parents recommend the school. Core subjects are taught within a rigorous, challenging curriculum that is tailored to every child’s needs, which parents stated, is a wonderful change from traditional schools. This is also done with a 2-way immersion program combining both Spanish and English.

The Academic Performance Index showed an academic increase from 820 to 855. This is what the parents want to see especially since the statewide goal is 800.

Parents cannot say enough about the good things about Nestor Language Academy Charter. The reason is the teachers. They go above and beyond each day to ensure the success of every student. They really do love their jobs and it shows. The students thrive each day and that can be seen through test scores as well as daily notes from the school.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

For grades 2nd through 4th, the student’s scores showed areas for improvement while the 5th and 6th grade students surpassed the state averages. The staff at Nestor Language Academy Charter works each day to improve those numbers whether they were above the state averages or not.
