Nestor Language Academy Charter opened in 2010 for students in grades Kindergarten through seventh. The school offers a curriculum based upon dual languages. The school strives for an understanding of culture, languages and multiple perspectives for students to see the world in every light. The school offers core subjects that are geared to a bilingual perspective. This not only teaches students a new language, but also gives the students a look at the world and its differences. This is a valuable tool for school, work and community.
The school focuses on academics and does not offer sports, activities, or student clubs, which is a huge disappointment for students.
Great teachers, great academic program and practice for the future are what the parents of Nestor Language Academy Charter are saying about the school. Nearly every review praised the school for its hard work and dedication to each student. Plus the dual language curriculum is what makes the difference in this school as compared to others. Parents also love the test scores. The students like going to school. While learning a new language it can be difficult however, they say they like the challenge. Plus it is cool to know new words. Students did state they would like to see more events and activities offered.
The Academic Performance Index showed an increase in academic growth from 820 to 855. The statewide goal for California is a score of 800.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The test results showed highs and lows as compared to the state averages. For example on the 5th grade Math exam 74% passed with the state at 65%. On the grade 3 English Language Arts exam 61% of students passé. The state average was 67%. The upper grades had better overall scores.
Students, parents, and teachers are very pleased with the test scores and the academic growth. With the scores and opinions of parents and students, the school is doing an excellent job of educating students. If you have any concerns, you should visit the school.
